ABOUT
REFLECTIVE COMPOSER
Ty is a published composer whose work explores narrative identity, scientific concepts, and inward reflections on reality. His pieces have been performed in the U.S. and in Europe. In 2019, Ty composed music for renowned Greek guitar duo Alexandra Christodimou & Yannis Petridis which was featured and performed at the Palaio Guitar Festival in Athens, Greece. The piece was published by Panas Music, Papagrigoriou-Nakas. Ty recently composed a chamber opera "worry" for Due Donne Productions to be performed in Boston in June of 2020. Ty studied composition under renowned composer Stratis Minakakis.
DEDICATED PROFESSOR/TEACHER
Ty is currently at an Adjunct Music Professor at Lone Star College in the Houston area. While in the graduate program at New England Conservatory, Ty taught THYG 553: Principles of Harmony and Form, where he taught on three units: chromatic chords in part-writing, 20th century analytical techniques, and Final Review. Final Review was a pass/fail class taken by 25 graduate students who initially failed the Entrance Music Theory Competency Exam at NEC. After the course, all 25 students were able to pass. Prior to that, Ty spent many years teaching guitar, piano, and music theory to students of all ages. Through the years, Ty has worked in various music centers, schools, and music camps overseeing the music departments and giving private music lessons to students of all ages. Ty has a knack for taking complicated concepts and conveying them in a simple way students can understand.
MUSIC THEORIST
Ty has advanced music theory skills and was given the opportunity to work with New England Conservatory of Music Theory Department Chair, Katarina Miljkovic to create the following year's digital Graduate Music Theory Entrance Exam. He also worked as the Music Theory Department Assistant at NEC.
EDUCATION
Ty began studying guitar at age 12 and quickly became a disciplined and dedicated guitarist with a special interest in music theory. A versatile musician, Ty performs all genres including jazz, blues, rock, pop, and classical. He is also proficient in piano. He and received his Bachelor's of Music from the University Lafayette at Louisiana and a Master’s of Music Theory with a special emphasis in composition from New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.
